CUZE is a puzzle game created for mobile devices created by a small two-person team.

I was responsible for art-related activities in the game as well as being a game designer.

The Approach.

Our main design goal was to make CUZE something that could be played in quick short bursts or longer, more intense gaming sessions. We looked at classic video-game classics, Tetris and Pac-Man, as a source of inspiration, and broke them down to find out what made them resonate with people. 

 

What is it?

To go into more detail, CUZE is a three-dimensional maze game. Each time the player reaches the end of the maze (signified by the flag post) the player moves onto the next level. The next maze is generated to be a little bit tougher than the last one to keep the difficulty and challenge rising.

The CUZE wordmark font is a custom typeface that I created specifically for the game, it also doubles as the game's logo. This typeface is used throughout CUZE. The aesthetic of the game was inspired by Soviet art, as it goes along with the themes of the game. I really wanted the logo to capture that as it would be the first thing the user would see when they launch the game.
